That should be led by an Engineer team if it is any enemy in close terrain and entrenched. Only when you suppress them, and ideally, surround them with your attack troops, should you start your attack. Tactical bombers are more damage oriented, and they're usually best used vs Tanks in the open, but you can use them to soften enemies up before you hit them with the ground troops. Both Artillery and Strat bombers will suppress and remove defences. You should be suppressing them and removing their entrenchment. That's why they'll be going ka-boom, especially early-war when tanks are rather weak.īefore you even think about launching any attacks, you should be bombarding the snot out of the enemy with artillery, strategic bombers and tactical bombers. A tank has lower close defence than normal defence, and if an infantry attacks into that terrain type (or vice versa) the infantry attacks with full power vs the tank's lower close defence stat. That's cities, towns, woods, hills, mountains etc. Infantry are murdering tanks probably because they're in close terrain. Then, you need to think about your force composition.ĭon't leave home without recon, you want to be able to spot enemies so that you can move your units into good position and plan your axis and methods of attack. That gives a good enough overview of how to play, as does the manual book. Your first port of call should be the tutorial, if you're struggling. I don't really buy the argument that it's a puzzle game, it follows the same principle as all hex based war games of this type do. There are some elements I'm struggling to get my head around, like how infantry seem to be really good at frontal assaults on tanks, but beyond that I'm not too sure what I'm missing.Īnyone got anything they wish they'd known starting out? Or am I best off just dropping the game as someone who really isn't a fan of combat puzzles? Even in the first few missions I'm struggling to keep losses down, and by the third mission or so I'm already so short on prestige I can't field a full army. I'm not the greatest tactician out there but I like to think I can hold my own, but in this game I'm just stuck in a constant loop of savescumming and restarts.ĭo people consider this a 'tactical puzzle' type game or am I approaching it wrong? It feels like there's an optimal solution to each mission, and deviating from it is punished hard. I don't know if I was wrong or if I'm just bad, but it's absolutely kicking my ass. Hi folks, I picked up Panzercorps 2 in the recent steam sale, thinking it looked like it was a bit on the gentler side of the war gaming spectrum.
